This is a news service only and the reports are unchecked. All records submitted via the "Submit record" page will be sent to the Bulletin Bird Notes Compiler and entered onto the DOS database even if they do not appear here. Please note that for obvious reasons we do not publish sightings of rare breeders such as Little Ringed Plover during the breeding season (unless obvious migrants)

Many congratulations to the Carsington Bird Club team whose diligent patchwork produced 119 species during the period, a site record for a single month. On 7th, Simon Roddis and a small group covered the reservoir from dawn until dusk finding 92 species. These included a juvenile Marsh Harrier, a Great White Egret and a Common Scoter.
Elsewhere, plenty of interest included an obliging Cattle Egret (giving us all three white herons for the month), another Wryneck and a Black Redstart. Whooper Swans and Pink-footed Geese began passing through the county and wildfowl returned in good numbers.
Amongst the latter, a couple of Garganey were good finds. A lengthy list of waders included Grey Plover, Knot and Little Stints.
A number of passerine species departed for the winter whilst others, such as the first Redwings of the autumn, arrived. Quite a bit of thispassage was picked up by teams running visible migration watches and their efforts are likely to intensify during October.
